Comment AppleCare & OS Technical Issues (Score 1) 116

As a long-time Apple user, my first Apple II a long time ago, and my first Mac computer a 1989 SE30, I have a reasonable amount of experience with both hardware and software issues. My technical experience is in Electrical and Systems Engineering, including a former instructor in Unix. My current 2019 MacBook Pro is, in car terms, a lemon with dozens of case numbers (Apple's trouble ticket tracking method). The common issues I see are the following.

% Too much emphasis on features, versus fixing the underlying issues with the OS
% Changes in the OS where even technical support is unfamiliar with the latest interface features and layout
% Inconsistent OS operation such as closing the last window shuts down come programs but leaves others running
% Lack of technical expertise in particularly the regular support people and even some senior-level support (dare I get modded down to mention DEI issues?)
% Senior-level support can't really troubleshoot deep technical issues and must defer to Engineering
% Poor tracking and response from Engineering to Senior support back to the user

Maybe Apple will wake up on software? It seems they did with hardware on the new MacBook Pro laptops.

Comment Help Us if LEED is the Model (Score 1) 71

AI performance evaluation is good. Using LEED as the model is bad. LEED metrics include many check the box and decision made for earning more points and not providing a usable building. I know of many LEED buildings were the workers have plug in heaters under their desks.

“ interpretability/explainability, bias/fairness, accountability, robustness against unwanted hacking or manipulation”

The key word is manipulation.
