A decent shield Date: Jul 15 2025
Summary: Avast Free Antivirus is a solid choice for users looking for basic, no-cost protection against common digital threats. It performs its core function well: keeping everyday viruses and malware at bay.
Positive: Effective basic protection. For a free product, Avast does a commendable job of catching common viruses, malware, and phishing attempts. Its real-time scanning provides a sense of security, and it generally performs well in independent lab tests for basic threat detection.
Regular updates.Negative: Aggressive upselling and pop-ups. Avast is for its constant and often intrusive pop-up notifications urging you to upgrade to their paid premium version or purchase other Avast products.

Resource Consumption: While it's generally lightweight during idle times, full system scans or intense background activities can sometimes be a bit of a resource hog, potentially slowing down older or less powerful computers. -

A Few Disadvantages but Dependable Free Protection Date: Jul 15 2025
Summary: For users seeking reliable, cost-free malware protection, Avast Free Antivirus is a very good option. It strikes a good balance between usability and functionality, particularly for casual or average users. However, you might think about upgrading—or taking a look at alternatives like Microsoft Defender or Bitdefender Free—if you need more sophisticated features, are sensitive to advertisements, or want complete control over your privacy.
Positive: Robust core protection: Avast Free Antivirus routinely scores highly in independent lab tests for ransomware, spyware, and malware detection and blocking. It provides competitive real-time protection compared to many premium options.
Rich free features: Avast provides more than just basic protection for a free antivirus. It comes with a good software updater, a password manager (albeit one that is currently limited), and a Wi-Fi network scanner.
User-friendly interface: The program is clear, up to date, and easy to use. Users who are not tech-savvy can easily navigate, set scans, and change preferences.
Light on system resources: Newer versions perform better and have little effect on system speed when used normally or when scanning.Negative: Upselling aggressively: Avast has a reputation for pressuring customers to purchase its premium products. Regular pop-ups telling you to update can be bothersome and invasive.

Historical privacy concerns: Avast has previously been criticised for its data collection methods using its subsidiary Jumpshot. The company has since closed that program and improved transparency, but it damaged user confidence.
Free version of limited advanced tools: Although the fundamentals are robust, the premium tiers are the only ones that offer features like a comprehensive firewall, a secure VPN, or sophisticated ransomware protection. -

Avast is very easy to use Date: Jun 19 2021
Summary: The free version is everything you can need in a basic anti-virus, uses low ram and cpu power so I cannot complain there. Support is a pain to deal with so make sure your ducks are in a row when using this software.
Positive: This software is super easy to use. Allowing for a passive mode so my games run better is amazing!!
Negative: Support is always trying to sell you something. I understand that but in todays world. I don't think many people can afford the premium service.
